When rumours start that King Henry VIII (Eric Bana) is looking for another wife to give him an heir, Sir Thomas Boleyn devises a plan for his daughter Anne (Natalie Portman) to seduce the king and bear him a son. However Henry takes to Mary (Scarlett Johansson) who though already married obeys the king and provides him with a son whilst reluctantly falling in love with him. Anne's hunger for the throne overpowers her sisterly love and she starts along the path that eventually tears her family and country apart while leading to her legendary demise. Based on the novel by Philippa Gregory
