At the turn of the century Texas silverminer, Plainview (Day-Lewis) moves to California to seek and find oil. Driven by greed, pride and contempt for everyone and everything he ruthlessly amasses a gigantic fortune. However Palinview has a sanctimonious enemy in the smooth young preacher Eli Sunday whose family owns the ranch Plainview needs to buy in order to get at the oil underneath.
There Will Be Blood shows our dysfunctional relationship with capital and natural resources and even hints at a grim future in which our addiction to oil can no longer be fed. If you enjoy excitement, imagination and rule busting experimentation then this film is for you.
