German with English subtitlesA war film with a difference
A Woman in Berlin looks at what happens to women in wartime, specifically the mass rape of German women by Soviet soldiers at the end of World War II. Based on the notorious 1953 memoir documenting the fall of Berlin by a woman who called herself ‘Anonyma’ this film tells the story of a woman (Nina Hoss), who like many others at the time, turned to a Red Army officer for protection, preferring to be a kept woman rather than the sex toy of any random infantryman.
