This fascinating re-telling of Charles Perrault’s classic fairy tale seamlessly weaves together two seemingly disparate stories. In the 1950s, Catherine and Marie-Anne discover a dusty copy of the original book which Catherine reads aloud to terrify her older sister. In an unspecified year during the Renaissance, Princess Marie-Catherine is destined to become the last wife of the evil Bluebeard. She will be the only one of his many wives to survive. Blending 20th century drama with period storytelling Bluebeard is a fascinating and sumptuous re-working of a classic story into a moving and compelling modern film.
