Set in modern-day Argentina, with lengthy flashbacks to the time of military rule, the film tells the story of a retired justice department investigator Benjamin Esposito (Ricardo Darin), who decides to write a novel about the case that's haunted him for 25 years – the rape and murder of Liliana Coloto, a beautiful young teacher. As Esposito uncovers the devastation of the brutal crime on the victim’s family, he sets out to find the killer 25 years on.
