From the director of Calendar Girls this comedy-drama boasts an all-star British cast including Sally Hawkins, Miranda Richardson, Bob Hoskins, John Sessions and Rosamund Pike. Award-winning Sally Hawkins (Happy-Go-Lucky) is Rita O'Grady, the catalyst for the 1968 Ford Dagenham strike which saw 187 sewing machinists walk out in protest against sexual discrimination. Working long hours in extremely impoverished conditions, the women at the Ford Dagenham plant finally lay down their tools when they are reclassified as ‘unskilled’. With humour, common sense and courage they take on their corporate paymasters, an increasingly belligerent local community and finally the government itself.
