Wednesday 24th June to Tuesday 14th July In order to give our audience a more comprehensive understanding of this renowned artist’s work as featured in the Gallery exhibition, the craft showcases will house a selection of A John Poole’s maquettes. Born in 1926, Bishampton-based A John Poole studied at Birmingham School of Art and later in the studio of William Bloye. He then went on to produce over one hundred and twenty major works including his first commission The Sower to his most notable West Midlands work The Rotunda Relief, an alternative decoration to the Lloyds Banking Hall in Birmingham.
The portrait of A. John Poole will be completed by jewellery created by John’s late wife, Daphne Poole (1926-2005). Daphne had degrees in both ceramics and goldsmithing and was an expert jewellery maker. All of her jewellery is hand-made and includes rings, brooches, pendants and items such as christening spoons. Casts of these items are now being made available for sale in either silver or gold.
