This beautiful ballet inspired by Victor Hugo’s novel Notre Dame de Paris was originally choreographed by Marius Petipa with music be Cesare Pugni. This Bolshoi Ballet production is staged and choreographed by Yuri Burlaka and Vasily Medvedev. It tells the dramatic story of poet Gringore, who is sentenced to be hanged but is saved by the beautiful gypsy girl Esmeralda who agrees to marry him. Archdeacon Frollo, torn between his love for God and his obsession for the gypsy girl, sends his henchman Quasimodo to capture her. Esmeralda is rescued by Phoeus, the handsome captain of the guard, and later, alone, Esmeralda starts to dream about him…
