The ESO return to Pershore following their sell-out concert last year with a programme of classical pieces written by composers who have been inspired by their native countries’ folk music. Familiar British folk-tunes contrast with the dynamism of the works by Bartók, Bazzini and Popper, with An English Folk Song Suite for Viola and Strings written by Stephen Roberts, Londonderry Air arranged by Percy Grainger, a Slavonic Dance by Dvořák and Rumanian Dances by Bartók. A particular feature of the orchestra is that the members of the group become the soloists and then retake their place within the orchestra, a tradition that continues with Peter Adams’ stunning interpretation of Popper’s Hungarian Rhapsody.
