The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service PresentationPosted on Nov 07, 2017
Number 8 volunteers were awarded The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service 2017. With an equivalent status for voluntary groups as the MBE has for individuals the QAVS is the highest award given to local volunteer groups to recognise outstanding work done in their own communities.
Number 8 is governed by a voluntary Board of Trustees and is run by over 160 volunteers who work alongside just a few members of paid staff. The work that Number 8 does for the community was very much admired by the QAVS Independent Assessment Committee, chaired by Sir Martyn Lewis CBE.
The Vice Lord Lieutenant of Worcestershire, The Hon Lady Morrison who presented the award and addressed Number 8 volunteers is a well-known and well respected member of the community. She has been a Vice Lord Lieutenant of Worcestershire since 2006, as well as High Sheriff in 2011, a Governor of The King’s School Worcester and Chairman of Worcester Cathedral’s Music and Light Appeal. Lady Morrison is also an active volunteer herself – with the Worcester Carers Association, and as a prison visitor at HMP Long Lartin.
