In 1930s
Paris, Madeleine (Nadia Terezkiewicz), a pretty, young, penniless and
talentless actress, is accused of murdering a famous producer. As she stands
trial for the murder, with her lawyer friend Pauline (Rebecca Marder) as her
defence counsel, Madeleine ascends to decadent stardom. When she is acquitted
on the grounds of self-defence a new life of fame, wealth and tabloid celebrity
awaits – until the truth comes out…

Adapted from
a 1934 play by Georges Berr and Louis Verneuil and featuring a supporting cast
including Isabelle Huppert, Dany Boon, and Fabrice Luchini, The Crime Is Mine is a rollicking farce
and scabrous satire with a wily feminist edge. Dir. François Ozon, 1hr 43mins, French with subtitles, cert 15.

“A
willfully theatrical, proudly retro yet delectably pertinent confection…” Screen Daily
