Io Capitano (cert tbc)

Yearning for a brighter future two Senegalese teenagers, Seydou and Moussa, leave Dakar to travel to Europe, where they believe opportunities await and Seydou’s dream of being a pop star can be realised.

They embark upon a treacherous journey neither could have imagined,  through a labyrinth of checkpoints, the scorched Saharan desert, a fetid North African prison and the vast waters of the Mediterranean where thousands have died packed inside vessels barely fit for passage.

This epic coming-of-age tale offers a deeply human perspective on the migrant crisis. The film won top directing and acting prizes at the Venice Film Festival and is nominated for the Best International Feature Film Oscar  at the 2024 Academy Awards.

Nominated for ‘Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language’ at the 2024 Golden Globes.

“A grand, honestly felt emotional sweep … Garrone’s most robust, purely satisfying filmmaking since his international breakthrough with Gomorrah 15 years ago.” Variety

Directed by Matteo Garrone.
