That They May Face the Rising Sun (15)

This beautiful adaptation of John McGahern’s last novel captures a year in the life of a rural lakeside community in late 70s Ireland. Writer Joe (Barry Ward) and artist Kate (Anna Bederke) have returned from London to live in a small, close-knit community in Ireland near to where Joe grew up. A year in their lives and those of their neighbours unfolds through the routines of work, play and the passing seasons.

A delicate, meditative exploration of ritual, community bonds, and the question of how best to live.

“…beautifully realised and quietly beguiling.” Screen Daily

Directed by Pat Collins.
