The Holdovers (15)

This acclaimed comedy drama set in the 70s follows a curmudgeonly teacher (Paul Giamatti in a Golden Globe winning performance) at a New England prep school who is forced to remain on campus during the Christmas holidays to babysit the students with nowhere to go. Eventually he forms an unlikely bond with one of them – a damaged, brainy troublemaker (Dominic Sessa) – and with the school’s head cook, who has just lost a son in Vietnam (Da’Vine Joy Randolph).

Nominated for seven BAFTAs, including Best Film and five Oscars ™.

Directed by Alexander Payne.

“Consistently hilarious, undercut with melancholy and flecked with profundity … Hilarious and heartfelt, it’s a tale to be treasured.” Empire
