The Teachers’ Lounge (12A)

Carla Nowak (Leonie Beneschi) is a dedicated, idealistic young teacher in her first job at a German middle school. Carla’s relaxed rapport with her students is put under stress when a series of thefts occur at the school, and a staff investigation leads to accusations and mistrust among outraged parents, opinionated colleagues, and angry students. Caught in the middle, Carla tries to mediate – but the more she tries to do everything right, the more desperate her position becomes.

“An ingeniously plotted thriller with a twist, Catak’s film rarely leaves the school building but it has more to say about the world we live in than most of the films I’ve seen this year. Essential viewing.” Sunday Independent

Directed by Ilker Çatak.
