There is lots to look forward to this season, with a great variety of live events, event cinema and films screenings, workshops and exhibitions – it’s sure to put a spring in your step!
We have an assortment of live events coming up; actress Ellie Darvill will be bringing The Gardening Times to our stage, there’s the charming family theatre production of Wind in the Willows, and Anthony Harris and TV wildlife presenter Ajay Tegala will be joining us for A Year of Birdsong & Bird Songs with discounted tickets for Friends. Live concerts include Hello Again … A Tribute to Neil Diamond, Fleetwood Machine Celebrating the Music of Fleetwood Mac, and the Orchestra of the Swan with Rococo. Tickets are also on sale now for PODS’ summer show, the vibrant musical Guys & Dolls.
Via satellite we have highly acclaimed productions from National Theatre Live, including a new production of Othello, Good starring David Tennant, the visually stunning Life of Pi, and the award-winning Best of Enemies starring Birmingham’s own David Harewood, and Zachary Quinto. There’s also the opportunity to delve into the work of legendary artists with Exhibition on Screen, enjoy world-class opera and ballets from The Royal Opera House, with Friends’ discounted tickets available for Turandot, and the West End smash hit Heathers the Musical.
Upcoming films include a host of award winners, or soon to be award winners, with The Whale starring Brendan Fraser, Steven Spielberg’s memoir The Fabelmans, Cannes Jury Prize award winner EO, and another opportunity to see the BAFTA nominated The Banshees of Inisherin. We’re very excited to be screening the brilliant documentary In the Court of Crimson King, followed by a Q&A on stage with the film’s director Toby Amies and producer David Singleton. We’re also screening Allelujah a deeply moving story adapted from the Alan Bennett play featuring an all-star cast including Jennifer Saunders, Judi Dench and Derek Jacobi. Families can enjoy screenings of The Amazing Maurice and Epic Tales, and there’s another opportunity to enjoy Roald Dahl’s Matilda with Musical, as well as a sing-along screening of the film!
Our popular language cafés in The Foyer continue into the spring with French and Italian themed evenings followed by film screenings. There are also opportunities to Sip & Sketch, or join us for a good old fashioned Sing-Along.
We have two Pop Up Painting workshops scheduled for the spring where you can create a piece of art inspired by Henri Rousseau and Banksy. Dancers can join in with our Chance to Dance: Springtime on Broadway workshop, and little ones can take part in a Matilda Dance Workshop.
