Come and join our friendly team!
Number 8 is managed and staffed by over 230 volunteers working alongside a small team of paid staff. Volunteers lead the management team and work in a variety of roles across the organisation – from customer facing roles like coffee bar assistants and stewards to work behind the scenes as admin assistants, or as part of the maintenance team.
“I have been volunteering at Number 8 since it first opened. It is such a friendly, happy place and I love meeting the public and chatting. I have made so many friends – I dread the time when I am too old to carry on!” Marian Hughes – Box Office Volunteer
We have volunteers from all walks of life with a variety of previous experience including former scientists, plumbers, stay-at-home parents, head teachers, carers, air stewardesses, high school and college students, and engineers.
The valuable role that Number 8 volunteers play in the community was acknowledged in 2017 when Number 8 was the recipient of The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. With an equivalent status for voluntary groups as the MBE has for individuals the QAVS is the highest award given to local volunteer groups.
We’re always looking for more volunteers. Whether you would like to use your existing skills and knowledge or try something completely new we have a variety of volunteer roles across all of these areas:
At the moment we are particularly keen to find volunteers to help in the Just After 8 Charity Shop and on the Coffee Bar and Evening Bar.
