‘The Art Group at Aspie’ is a weekly Therapeutic Group held at Aspie during its opening hours. It is committed to fostering a safe and supportive environment held in a quiet, relaxing space away from the pressures and noises of life where members at Aspie can express themselves freely and without judgement. The Therapeutic Group is designed to encourage personal growth, creativity, self-discovery, reduce anxiety and support emotional regulation to promote healing.
The Therapeutic Group focus’ on the making and doing and being creative as the fundamental part of the process as opposed to a good or skilled piece of art therefore artistic experience is not necessary. The Group has a wide variety of art materials available to use such as drawing, painting, collage, oil and chalk pastels and clay. We also do workshops to learn new techniques such as a ‘lino print’ workshop (some of this work is featured in this exhibition). Through collaborative projects and individual exploration, members often find new ways to communicate and connect with others in the group, building confidence and resilience along the way.
