Unleash Your Creativity at Number 8
Posted on Sep 02, 2024Do you want to unleash your creativity? Studied have shown that being creative improves wellbeing, and that activities such as crafting, dancing, painting or creative writing can play an important role in reducing stress, improving mental health and boosting self-esteem. Number 8’s upcoming programme includes a variety of ways to nurture your artistic side, get creative, and meet new people.
The centre is enrolling now for weekly Chance to Dance classes running on different days throughout the autumn team. These exercise-based dance classes are specifically designed for those age 55+ and are a great way to improve fitness and flexibility, and have fun!
Number 8 is also holding free monthly Sip & Sketch afternoons on Thu 12 Sep, Thu 17 Oct and Thu 14 Nov. Whether you’re a keen sketcher or just fancy having a go, Number 8 is inviting you to drop in at any time between 1.00 and 4.00pm to sketch a ‘still life’ whilst socialising and enjoying a cuppa.
For those who would like to try their hand at painting there’s a Tamara de Lempicka themed Pop Up Painting workshop on Thu 19 Sep, 7.00pm and a Vincent van Gogh workshop on Thu 21 Nov, 7.00pm. These workshops offer the opportunity to create your own painting in the style of the artist under the expert guidance of art tutor Kay Mullet. All materials, including canvas, paint, brushes and aprons, are provided and participants get to take their completed canvas home with them.
There’s the opportunity to learn the art of glass fusing in a Fused Glass Coaster Workshop on Tue 24 Sep, 7.00pm. Guided by Carly Mustoe from Worcestershire jewellery company Glassy Silver, participants will design and create two unique glass coasters, perfect for gifting or brightening up your home.
Or, if you’re interested in creative writing there’s the chance to develop your skills in Number 8’s Writing Your Imagination playwriting course led by Steve Wilson from Crave Arts. Over a series of 4 sessions between 8 Oct – 19 Nov Steve will take you through the process of writing a play, including structure, setting, developing characters, and writing sizzling dialogue. Pieces created on the course will be included in an informal Writing Showcase in The Foyer on Thu 28 Nov, 8.00pm.
